April 2013 NewsletterA round up of news and views Combating fuel poverty - TM members met with Claire Perry, M.P. and national Green Deal Ambassador, at her constituency office in Devices, recently. We wanted to explain to her the underlying causes of fuel poverty in Marlborough and to find out how we can best use the Green Deal to help those in private rented accommodation and in social housing reduce their heating bills. First renewable energy project now underway - Kennet Community Energy Limited (KCEL), the newly formed community energy company is now deploying its first project, a 44kW solar PV installation, having successfull raised funds and cleared all planning permission issues - read more here Bedwyn bus - the revised timetable came into effect on 20th April. Have you taken advantage of the new £1-each-way commuter bus fare yet? Find out more here... Wiltshire Council says that the evening buses maybe with-drawn later this year if they are not used. Give and Take Swap stall - Do you have an unwanted, new or nearly new item that needs a good home? The Recycling Group is planning to host a stall at the Communities' Market where such items can be given away free of charge. Find out more, here... Climate Change: Children know best - in a recent IPSOS MORI poll, 74% of children aged 11-16 stated that they are worried about how climate change will affect their future and an identical percentage believe the world will have changed due to climate change by the time they are adults. Join us for an hour in Devizes, from 11am, May 4th, when Fiddler Extraordinaire Iona Hasson will draw crowds to sign crucial campaigning postcards demanding an Energy Bill that keeps the promise of our historic Climate Bill – and gives us a fighting chance to avert runaway climate change. We collected 100 signatures in one hour in Marlborough High Street on 1st December, see publicity here... If so, please let Sam know, as we are looking for someone to judge a 'Lardy Cake'-making competition: sampage_zim@yahoo.co.uk The Recycling Group - has been a bit quiet on the news front recently because Shirley is knee deep in working on an on-line recycling directory, updating the 2005 version that was published by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. So much has changed and it is taking longer than anticipated! Hopefully, with help from other Recycling members, it will be ready to launch in the next month or so. Watch this space...
