August 2017 NewsletterOur AGM will be on Wednesday 11th October in the Green Dragon, starting at 7.30pm - we would like all TM members to attend.
Evolution of Transition Marlborough
Our newsletter this month brings you exciting news of change in TransitionMarlborough.org, change we would like you to be involved with and hopefully feel inspired to become more involved. Last Tuesday there was a hub meeting which met to discuss three main topics:
The most important news first. The 5 people who attended the meeting voted unanimously to most certainly carry on PEAT’s work – full details of that project will be provided at the AGM and Transition Marlborough’s role in the program of work. It is very much in line with our own thinking on Bee’s and projects coming forward from the membership.
With that decided, the meeting turned its attention to the next stage of Transition Marlborough’s evolution. TM was formed from a meeting in the town hall September 2011 so this year will see our 6th Annual General Meeting. This year at the Green Dragon, we have the “Breakfast room” (down the steps past the bar) for the meeting to open at 7:30 pm all are welcome – if you plan on attending, we would be grateful if you might drop an email to me at chair@transitionmarlborough.org just to get an idea of numbers. So, what is this “Evolution” in the title of this piece? It is with a heavy heart I have to announce the original thinker Dr Sam Page who inspired quite a few people and I to work with her to form transition Marlborough has decided to become a remote friend of TM by virtue of the fact she wants to take up a Celtic lifestyle by moving to Edinburgh. That means effectively Sam is stepping down in an active role in TM. We all owe Sam a huge amount and I am sure this will be properly highlighted at the AGM and other celebrations. I had already announced I was standing down as chairperson and it feels right for a new team to take over the watch. The Hub meeting on the 29th of September was confident that a new set of officers can be elected into the roles required by the constitution. However, with this newsletter the current Hub team want to canvas for the widest possible set of new ideas from people who have an interest in Transition Marlborough and to consider putting themselves forward to be an active contributor in a group or suggest a new group or perhaps become one of the officer roles: Chairperson, Secretary, Website Administrator. The Chairperson is voted into office by the whole membership at AGMs. AGMs will be held each year before the end of October. If you are interested in these roles and would like to be considered or have ANY input to shape the future of transition, please in the first instance email chair@transitionmarlborough.org. I will accept email interest and nominations for Chairperson up to Midnight of the 3rd of October, which will be voted on at the meeting on the 11th of October.
Remember “Transition is a process of change from one state to another.” TM is not immune from that process as well, personally I am delighted that we are going to be carrying on the work of PEAT and building on the amazing energy of Sam and the large number of contributors that has produced admiration and support from across the globe for TransitionMarlborough.org
