September 2012 NewsletterA round up of news and views Derek Wolfe - we were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Derek's sudden death last week; in addition to being Marlborough's Town Clerk, he was also TM's Secretary and a key member of the Marlborough Communities' Market committee. He readily volunteered to be our secretary in February this year - his knowledge of the mysterious workings of local government was invaluable, as was his commitment to community development, through the conscientious way that he approached his secretarial and administrative duties. We will miss him very much. Read more, here... Public Consultation - This is your chance to object to Wiltshire Council's ban on wind turbines. On June 26 Wiltshire Council agreed its new Core Strategy, but at the last minute, an amendment was accepted that aimed to create minimum separation distances between homes and wind turbines. The scale of these separation distances would effectively end prospects of wind farm development in Wiltshire, and thus ensure that the Council's own carbon emission reductions targets will never be met. The government planning inspector has told WC to consult the public about this controversial policy. Please click here to find out how you can object by email. We have until 1st November to do this. TM has a new Activity Group - this has been formed by participants of the recent, highly successful Permaculture Course. It will meet in a local garden on the first Saturday morning of each month. If you would like to join in, please check out the next venue on the Permaculture page or email us at permaculture@transitionmarlborough.org. You can also learn about local Forest Gardening, here... TM's Annual General Meeting - TM is holding its first AGM on Wednesday 24th October, in the Town Hall's upstairs Assembly Room, starting at 7pm where Members will vote on the final draft of the Constitution and review the roles of the Hub/Development Group. But everyone is welcome, and you can sign-up as a Member on the night. So please come along and help us celebrate the many achievements we have made during the past year and watch the latest Rob Hopkins' film: In Transition 2.0 - the inspiring new film from Transition Network, capturing stories of Transition initiatives around the world, responding to uncertain times with creativity, solutions and 'engaged optimism'. Refreshments will be available.
Thanks
The Transition Marlborough team
