New cycle path for Marlborough - the Transport Group were pleased to receive good news from the Town Clerk recently, confirming that a new cycle path is to be built passing through the old Salisbury Road depot, linking the Sustrans Swindon Railway Path with Tescos car park. This new path will be installed by Wiltshire Council, as part of the Section 106 agreement with the site developer.
President Obama vetos the Keystone Pipeline - This means that he is one step closer to a final rejection of Keystone XL — President Obama has vetoed the Congress bill that would have forced him to approve the pipeline. It’s not the same as rejecting the pipeline, but it is a big deal: it’s just the third time this President has vetoed a bill. He wouldn’t be taking this step if not for the extraordinary work that US citizens have done to push him to take this issue seriously. A few years ago, he was barely acknowledging the pipeline, and now he’s talking about climate change often, and Keystone is one of the top issues in Washington. Read more...
The Green Deal fails to cut carbon emissions - Do you remember the Green Deal and how it was supposed to not only cut carbon emissions, but also lift millions of families out of fuel poverty? Well - the latest government statistics show that only around one thousand households, nationwide, have benefitted from the installation of solid wall insulation over the past three years. Time to Act! Climate Demo in London - Following on from the tremendous success of the People’s Climate March in September, on March 7th 2015, the Time to Act on Climate Change march will bring people together again on the streets of London to demand real change and tell politicians seeking election that there is no mandate for climate-wrecking business as usual. 2015 is a crucial year for the climate. In December, governments will come together in Paris to strike a new deal for the climate - we must make our voices heard. Find out more, here...
