December 2014 NewsletterA round up of news and views Wiltshire Council's Parking Consultation - Do you agree that our High Street has become an enormous car park, choked with toxic emissions from congested traffic, which pose a danger to pedestrians and cyclists? Could you imagine our High Street with less traffic and tree-lined 'shared spaces', that meet the needs of people rather than cars? This vision could be achieved if enough of us make our views known via Wiltshire Council's Parking Consultation. Recent Climate talks in Lima - A far greater sense of urgency is needed on the part of some world leaders to secure a comprehensive post-2020 climate agreement at next December’s summit in Paris, says the U. S. Union of Concerned Scientists. The main stumbling block seems to have been the level of climate finances for countries that are being hardest hit by the effects of climate change and the failure of some big fossil fuel users to commit to cutting their GHG emissions. In case you missed this astonishing recent headline in The Telegraph: Energy Secretary, Ed Davey has warned that investing in fossil fuels is becoming increasingly risky because global action to tackle climate change will curb demand, forcing companies to leave unprofitable reserves in the ground. Read more here... General Election 2015 - is only 5 months away. We are planning to invite local candidates for the Devizes constituency to answer our questions on the economy and climate change, starting with Mark Fletcher, who has recently been re-selected for the Green Party. This Q & A session will be at Green Drinks in the Green Dragon, on 5th February 2015. So make a note in your new diary.
