January 2013 NewsletterA round up of news and views Community Energy Company up and running ! The project to develop and launch a community energy company to fund and develop renewable energy production in north and east Wiltshire has now come to fruition. Registration of the new company, Kennet Community Energy Limited, as an Industrial & Provident Society (IPS) is complete and the first project is underway. This not-for-profit social enterprise has been established for the benefit of the local communities with all surplus profits going to a Community Fund. Full details can now be found at a new dedicated web site at www.kennetenergy.org.uk The Permaculture Group is planning to hold another 'Practical Permaculture for Transition Course' starting in March. - The cost is £30 for 10 Saturday morning sessions, find out more here... Seed Swapping - calling all keen gardeners! Please bring your left-over seeds and seedlings to the Permaculture Stall at the Community Market on Sunday 3rd March, where you will be able to swap them with our seeds and seedlings, at no cost! Coalition Energy Bill - please write to Claire Perry, M.P. claire.perry.mp@parliament.uk urging her to support the amendment to the Energy Bill which would limit GHG emissions to 100g CO2/kWh by 2014 in order to eliminate fossils fuels from electricity generating stations and reach our decarbonisation target by 2030. Find out more, here... Combating Fuel Poverty in the Marlborough Area - did you know that there is enough revenue raised from the European Emissions Trading Scheme and the Carbon Floor Price to treat 600,000 fuel poor households every year, providing each of them with a grant worth on average £6,500 to install energy efficiency measures. This would reduce their energy bills by an average £310 a year. Sign the petition and invite our M.P. to do the same, here... Come and listen to our Town Council debating this important subject on Monday 28th January, at around 8pm. You can find out why so many families in the Marlborough Area are in fuel poverty, here... And why the Green Deal will increase, rather than reduce fuel poverty, here... We need more helpers - to erect and take down the Community Market tent - the more helpers we have the quicker we can do the job. Please come along to the town centre, either at 9am or 3pm next Sunday (3rd February) and give us a hand!
Thanks
The Transition Marlborough team
