June 2013 NewsletterA round up of news and views The new Town Council have voted unanimously - to continue supporting TM in reducing carbon emissions and the amount of waste going into land-fill, in line with various Wiltshire Council policies. We now have 3 town council reps: Cllrs Lisa Farrell, Justin Cook and Guy Loosmore. Cycle Racks - the Cycling Group (Ann and Peter) have met with representatives from the Town Council, Area Board and Wiltshire Highways Dept., in order to find a way forward. We hope that a compromise can be found, in the meantime there's still time to sign Alison's petition, here... Bus shelter in Marlborough High Street - the Transport Group had been supporting the previous Town Council and the Area Board in their efforts to install a bus shelter in front of Ladbrokes, as part of a wider plan to improve public transport locally. The new Town Council is now questioning the need for this shelter and is planning an on-line consultation, you can make your views known here... Re-skilling Marlborough - We now have someone who is about to embark on a basket-making course at Marlborough College. We still need people to do 'wild food foraging' and 'rustic furniture-making', find out more here... We are also looking for someone who is willing to train as a Domestic Energy Assessor. Big Plant Give-Away - Thanks to everyone who joined in: the Permaculture Group raised £40 in donations. Bee-friendly verges - Another 'thank you' to everyone who helped with the digging and who contributed plants, cuttings, seedlings and seeds for the area up at the top of the Common, alongside the Swindon Rd which Aster Housing Association has willingly let us plant up. It's looking well-established and pollinators have found it.
Jo is now in the process of getting the necessary agreement sorted with Wiltshire Council to start on another area along the London Road.
TM's On-line Recycling Directory - has been created by Shirley, with help from the Recycling Team. It has "reduce and reuse" tips and online links that can be used anywhere, not just in Marlborough. It is a practical guide which aims to give a wide variety of options. Check it out here... You can read the Marlborough News-on-line article about it here... Bring-and-Take Stall - Have you visited it yet? So far Lorna and her helpers have saved around 30kg of perfectly good 'stuff' from going into land-fill and raised funds for TM. The next B&T stall will be in the Sunday Market on 7th July.
Thanks
The Transition Marlborough team
