Tyres

The disposal of whole tyres into landfill was banned in July 2003, with shredded tyre disposal into landfill being outlawed three years later.

Reduce

About 6 litres of oil are used in each car tyre.  Your tyres will last longer if you drive carefully; regularly check that your tyre pressures are correct.

Reuse

Old tyres can be used as containers for garden plants (easier if turned inside-out).  Trailing plants will hide the tyres. They have been used when planting the trees in the Diamond Jubilee Orchard on Marlborough Common.

Recycle

When you buy new tyres, see if the garage will take the old ones. Alternatively, you can take them to Marlborough Household Recycling Centre (household car tyres only; not from businesses).
