January 2012 NewsletterA round up of news and views We are very pleased to announce that Transition Marlborough and Marlborough Climate Pledge have merged! This has resulted in the formation of a new TM Activity Group which will be known as 'Climate Pledge'. Find out what this Group is doing by clicking here. Great Western Franchise Replacement: Claire Perry, MP, is urging us to participate in the Great Western Franchise Replacement Consultation to ensure that Bedwyn station remains viable. Wiltshire Council is keen to reduce GHG emissions by preventing waste food from going into land-fill: They are offering cut-price (rat-proof) waste food digesters to all residents so we don't have to bin our food waste. If you can spare 2 hours (between 7am and 1pm) on Thursday 9th February to help with this survey, please let us know by clicking here Would you like to see future Farmers' Markets in our town centre on Sundays? The Food Group recently met with a Wiltshire Farmers' Markets Association rep and this idea was suggested. What do you think? Join us at the next Food Group meeting at 7.30pm on Thursday 23rd February in the Wellington Pub. Did you know that the government is subsidising the burning of trees for power generation? Meanwhile, millions of tons of waste wood are going into land-fill. Sign the petition here to ensure that waste wood is used to generate elecricity, while whole trees are conserved for use in carpentry to lock up carbon and reduce the need for unsustainable timber imports.
