July 2012 NewsletterA round up of news and views The first Marlborough Communities' Market was a great success -find out more here... The next one, on Sunday 5th August, promises to be even bigger, see the full list of stallholders here... You can give us a hand, either setting up or dismantling the marquees before 10am or after 4pm on the day! Bedwyn bus cuts: Members of the Transport Group have been invited to meet with First Great Western's Integrated Transport & Partnerships Manager to discuss ways of improving bus and train links at Bedwyn, Pewsey and Swindon stations. It's not too late to write to ian.white@wiltshire.gov.uk and Claire Perry MP: claire.perry.mp@parliament.uk in support of the alternative Bedwyn bus timetable as proposed by the Bedwyn Trains Passenger Group. You can down-load it from the bottom of the Transport page - just click the blue button at the bottom of the page if the download table isn't being shown. The Practical Permaculture for Transition course is having a summer break. We have recently visited Eastbrook Organic Farm and Shumei Natural Farm however. If you would like to join in our potato-tasting, forest gardening or integrated design sessions in September please email Sam at: permaculture@transitionmarlborough.org Did you know that Wiltshire Council are routinely using herbicides and other pesticides in and around our schools? If you are a head teacher or school governor and want to find out more, go to the Pesticide Action Network's Schools' Programme or read this report. Reducing fuel poverty: TM is working with Wiltshire Council to enable vulnerable families in social housing to benefit from free loft and cavity wall insulation, provided by one of the big six power companies, as part of the government's Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT). If we manage to get all 1, 053 properties in the Marlborough Area insulated it will save a huge amount in carbon emissions as well reducing heating bills. Huge thanks to Marlborough Town Council for awarding £500 to TM for reimbursing some of our start-up costs. Transition Marlborough's first AGM is being planned for Thursday 13th September 2012: TM members will be able to amend and ratify the TM Constitution, as well as vote for new officers - so if you are thinking of becoming a member don't hang back - simple click here to read more and please note this date in your diary, as we need your support.
