September 2014 NewsletterA round up of news and views UN Climate Summit 2014 - David Cameron told World Leaders that he had kept his promise to head 'the greenest government ever'! However, Gracia Machel, widow of Nelson Mandela punctured this self-congratulatory mood, saying world leaders had failed to rise to the challenge of climate change; read more here... Peoples' Climate March - We were there!... along with representatives from Devizes and Swindon. 40,000 people turned out in London, calling on David Cameron to implement green policies that will keep global temperature rises to less than 2oC. There were also big Climate Marches in Salisbury and Bristol. Our AGM - Rich Pitts has been confirmed as our chairperson and Alexandra Wax has agreed to continue as secretary. A big thanks to Geoff and Andrew for continuing as website administrator and treasurer, respectively. Marlborough Rail Link - Our 15 page report on the 1,017 comments that were made in support of restoring and electrifying the line between Bedwyn and Marlborough, has already been sent to Claire Perry M. P. and is now available for you to download by going to this page... Kennet Community Energy Ltd - new projects: significant progress has been made at our Community Energy Company (KCEL) in recent months: a 50kWp solar PV project at Devizes School has now gained planning permission and will be installed towards the end of October; and following approval at a full Town Council meeting in Trowbridge, KCEL are now developing a 77kWp solar PV potential project for the Trowbridge Civic Centre. More details are being published on the KCEL website here as the projects progress. KCEL second funding round: due to a significant increase in immediate project activity and more in the pipeline, KCEL have now opened a second funding round to allow new Members to join the company and help to expand the portfolio of renewable energy projects that are being developed. Applications can be made from the 1st October and the prospectus can be downloaded from the KCEL web site here. Marlborough Cycle Network - Are you a keen cyclist? Do you think that our local cycle network is fit for purpose? Wiltshire Council says it wants to encourage more people to cycle around the town, 'to improve our health and well-being' However, much more needs to be done to make these so-called 'cycle paths' safe, read more, here... The Transport Group is currently documenting some of the hazards that cyclists face when using the cycle network. You can view these hazards by clicking on the new interactive map, here... Cheese-making Course - We are planning another day-long, cheese-making session on Saturday, 15th November, from 10am to 4pm. The cost will be just £25 per person and includes a free cheese mould and a take-home, yummy cheese. ARK is working in conjunction with Thames Water and delivery partner Climate Energy to offer free water saving devices to all Marlborough residents.
